Top 10
These are my top 10 favourite Kino moments, starting from #10 and going to my favourite. Some of them are cute, some are sad and some are just classic Kino. I hope you like them as much as I did!#10: Episode 8: I didn't think a human could fly
When Kino arrived in town, she decided to help out Nimya, who was trying to build a flying machine. Much to everyone's surprise, she was actually able to fly! However, the highlight of the episode for me definitely was the conversation Kino had with Hermes at the end:
Kino: But anyways, what a surprise! I didn't think the machine would really fly.
Hermes: What did you say, Kino-san?
Kino: I said, I didn't think a human could fly.
Hermes: Then why did you help her out?
Kino: Why? No reason. But it flies..
#9: Episode 3: World-end sales
The townspeople believed that the world was going to end tomorrow, which means only one thing- world end shopping, of course! Kino goes to buy supplies and the shopkeepers give them to her for free, since money is of no use to them. Even knowing that it wasn't going to happen, Kino still took advantage and stocked up on everything. Her childish excitement and out-of-character greed makes this scene one that I remembered.
#8: Episode 11: I am not God
Kino met a man at a bar who was going to travel with the wife of someone he had killed, to repent his sins. When they got out in the wilderness, the woman shot him. The woman left and met Kino on the street:
Woman: Kino, you could have stopped me if you wanted to. Why didn't you?
Kino: Because I am not God.
#7: Episode 10: It's been a while
This scene doesn't really have any significance to the story at all, but it is so freaking adorable that I had to include it. After traveling for so long, Kino finally got a room to stay in. She took a shower and then hopped into bed, a look of pure joy on her face, saying "Oh, I haven't slept in a bed in so long!"
#6: Episode 6: Backwards Kindness
In the battling tournament, she came across a tough opponent with a flamethrower. After shooting out his waterline and dousing his victory, he refused to surrender like everyone else. Rather than shoot him, Kino just smiled, flipped her gun around and knocked him out with the handle.
#5: Episode 2: Pure Survival
This moment showcased how amazing Kino's survival instincts are. Cornered and forced to drop almost all of her weapons, a snow drift falling distracted her attackers. Without so much as flinching, she shot the first attacker in the head, then ran behind the second one and knifed him in the arm. After using him as a shield, she threw him down and shot the third. It's because of these survival instincts that she wasn't the victim of those slave traders.
#4: Episode 3: Even if the world was ending
Back to the village where the world was ending the next day- Kino and Hermes were in their room, when this conversation took place:
Hermes: Kino, if the world really was going to end tomorrow, what would you do?
Kino: Hmm.. even if that was true, I'd still go to bed for today.
#3: Episode 13: Death
After meeting and bonding with Sakura, Kino went to camp out on a mountain above town. She woke up suddenly, got scared and pulled out her gun just in time to see an explosion and pyroclastic flow swallow the entire town.
You may see it as weird that I picked a moment where Kino's world falls apart as one of my favourites, but I can't help it. Kino is usually so strong and stoic, so to see her flip out is so rare. The look of anguish on her face almost made me cry the first time I watched it.
#2: Episode 4: Childhood Re-visited
While traveling, Kino found a field of flowers just like the ones she encountered when she first left the village. She plopped down and looked so incredibly happy. Hermes whined and she burst out laughing, rolling around on the ground. To see her so un-guarded was just amazing!
#1: Movie #1: Now, I am Kino
By far one of the most dramatic moments I've ever seen in any series. After being attacked by the mother of the original Kino, Kino re-gains her composure, stands up and says "Now, I am Kino" before shooting her to death.
